Geothermal Energy Research
Surveys for Geothermal Energy Resources

Geothermal energy is created by the heat of the earth. This energy is produced from dry and low permeability reservoirs by circulating water in an engineered fracture network consisting of natural and man-made fractures. Usually the water is heated by the reservoirs of molten rock. The highest efficiency can be reached near a dormant volcano, but any location with hot rock is convenient to heat the circulated water. The depth of the reservoirs is up to 2500-3000 m (8200-9800 feet).

Seismic data acquisition systems are used to find the reservoirs. Using 2D and 3D seismic data and the development of magneto-telluric tools are sensitive to the presence of fluid-filled fracture systems.

Currently more and more governments are focused on the geothermal energy research.
