Seismic Instruments builds next-generation seismic data acquisition systems, currently for use on land. Our digital geophone technology and single-point sensor recording approach are well suited for a wide range of applications — from small, lightweight systems for engineering uses to massive, high-density surveys for petroleum exploration and mining. SI’s data acquisition systems can also be used with sensors other than our own SmartGeophone® (SMG), such as multi-component seismic sensors. Additionally, Seismic Instruments recently delivered a (non-seismic) electromagnetic data acquisition system to Shell (SIEP).
We design our modular system architecture to maximize flexibility and scalability, providing economical system reconfiguration and upgrade paths for our customers. Our customers can attest to SI’s excellent reliability and support.

S•Flex System
- Rapidly switch between cabled and cable-free configurations — and back again — anytime, using the same basic components. Flexible, modular and cost-effectively scalable.
- Small, medium or huge 2D or 3D surveys. Impulse or vibrator (vibroseis) energy source. Continuous recording. Time-lapse (4D) well/field/reservoir monitoring.
- Seismic or electromagnetic EM. 1C or multicomponent (3C). Coil geophones or accelerometers (MEMS) .
- One channel per sensor (one channel per component in 3C) — signals are digitized at the sensor.
- 12 to 72 channels per cable-free Autonomous Recording Node (ARN). Virtually unlimited ARNs in a sensor spread.
- Lighter, more compact and fewer batteries than competing systems.
Seismic Instruments’ S•Flex System uses our new HSLIM (Hybrid Smart Line Interface Module) and existing SMG (SmartGeophone) strings, or SDA (Smart Digitizing Adaptor) strings, in both cabled and cable-free configurations. In a cable-free configuration, no line cables (or cross-line [transverse] units & cables for 3-D) are needed; SI’s SAM (Smart Antenna Module) provides autonomous recording to flash memory, GPS based synchronization (<100ns) and wireless communication (Real-time Status/Quality Control) to the Operator Console.
